Cory Holt is a QB whose game improved rapidly from his sophomore to junior seasons. As a junior Holt was 108 of 192 (56%) for 2,038 yards, 29 TD's, and just 8 INT's. He rushed for 540 yards and 5 TD's. As a senior, he completed 92 of 178 (52%) passes for 1,728 yards, 21 TD's, and 6 INT's, and he rushed 95 times for 935 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Tied a state record by throwing for 8 TD's in one game as a junior. Named all-conference, all-county and all-area as a junior, and named offensive player of the year in the Central Carolina 2-A as a senior. Also an outstanding basketball player.
"We built our whole offense around his talents, and not just throwing but running as well," Coach Billy Hunt told the Winston-Salem Journal. "You could look at his career stats. He runs well and is 6-4 and 200 pounds and has 4.6 speed and a cannon for an arm."
