  • Safety
  • Class of 2005
  • Cumberland, MD (Fort Hill)
  • 5-11, 205 lbs
  • Status: Uncommitted
Notes: As a junior, Pope rushed for 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense he made seven interceptions, earning first-team all-state honors as a defensive back. He has rushed for 2,100 yards combined over the past two seasons. A good athlete, Pope possesses a 36-inch vertical leap.

Coach Barry Lattimer: “Andre’s been on the varsity since he was a freshman. I saw him play in the sixth grade and he was absolutely phenomenal. He started in the second game as a freshman. He has a great ability to see the field. He has real good peripheral vision, he’s good at setting up blocks and reading blocks, and he’s got phenomenal lateral movement. Andre’s able to run through tackles…his hip, leg, and upper body strength is phenomenal.

“He was a first-team all-state defensive back last year. We move him around. Sometimes he plays safety and sometimes we move him to corner when he play man-on-man defense. He understands the game so well on defense. He knows how to read quarterbacks, which gives him a big edge.

“He’s a humble person. He wants to get others involved. I doesn’t want to steal the show, but at the same time he knows he has the ability to take over a game.”
