Virginia Tech Football Recruiting: High School Commits and Transfer Portal Update

Virginia Tech added three commitments to the 2023 recruiting class on Sunday, with Ayden Greene, Jeremiah Coney and William Watson III all announcing their decisions following their weekend visits to Blacksburg. As a result, the Hokies’ board has gotten a lot smaller for the recruiting stretch run.

I feel better about Tech’s offensive recruiting class after last night. I like individual players in the class, and I’d felt like the coaching staff had done a good job of offensive line recruiting on the whole, but I didn’t feel like the offensive class was complete. I now feel a lot better about the 2023 class at not only the quarterback position, but also the running back and wide receiver spots as well.

In last week’s Friday Q&A, I mentioned several players that the Hokies were actively recruiting, and I also noted that “I’ve also heard rumors of the Hokies trying to flip a quarterback commit, but I have no idea who it is or whether there’s a legit shot that they pull it off.” Well, now we know. It was Watson, and yes, apparently Virginia Tech did have a legit shot to pull it off.

I also mentioned Ayden Greene as a possible commitment, and Coney as well. Both of those came to fruition. I talked about several other guys, too, and here’s where things currently stand with them, to the best of my knowledge…
