Hokies Practice Report: Peoples, Stroman Won’t Play In Military Bowl After Surgeries

Hokies safety Nasir Peoples was already dealing with a left knee injury for most of the 2023 season but added a broken thumb to his list of ailments late in the year, playing through the pain against NC State and Virginia.

“Nasir is one of the toughest guys I’ve ever coached,” Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry said Saturday. “It was just time to get him fixed.”

Peoples had recent ACL surgery that will keep him out of the Military Bowl against Tulane, a blow made worse by the fact that fellow starting safety Jalen Stroman will miss the game as well after having an undisclosed procedure.

With the two veterans out, the Hokies will do what they’ve done all year in what’s been a carousel at safety, leaning on Jaylen Jones and Mose Phillips, with nickelback Derrick Canteen an option as well.
