Five Thoughts The Day After Virginia Tech’s Loss At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — You might not have noticed a fourth-tier Big Ten result last night, what with all of the marquee games going on, but after Northwestern was given up for dead against Minnesota, down 21 points at the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats rallied to win in overtime.

Why does this matter to the Hokies? Well, Northwestern snapped an 11-game losing streak against Power 5 competition with the victory. That means Virginia Tech, which has lost nine straight games against Power 5 teams, now owns the longest skid of the major conference schools.

That, frankly, might be the least of the concerns for the Hokies, who couldn’t beat a Group of 5 team Saturday in a 24-17 loss to Marshall that had all the familiar issues that have held this team back both this year and last.
