Five Thoughts The Day After Virginia Tech’s Win Against ODU

When he finally addressed the media as the clock ticked past midnight, Brent Pry looked exhausted from a full day of football, giving the kind of measured response you’d expect from a head coach after a rousing but not dominant season-opening win against an Old Dominion,

“We’re pretty level-headed,” Pry said. “We’re not going to get too high or too low. We didn’t do that last year and we certainly could have. … There will be plenty to correct and plenty to work on. We still have a pretty long way to go to be the team that we can be.”

The Hokies’ 36-17 win against ODU wasn’t a clean sheet. Tech couldn’t establish the run, couldn’t stop the run, particularly QB keepers, and took nearly three quarters to finally shake the pesky Monarchs, who figure to be one of the worst teams on the schedule.

It sure beats last year’s result, though — by a wide margin — with a deeper talent pool, particularly at receiver, and a fresh start giving hope that the program is back on the ascent.
