One of the questions I thought I’d get for this week’s Friday Q&A is, “What’s one thing you’ll be looking for in the Virginia Tech-Old Dominion game that nobody is talking about?” Instead, I thought I’d nip it in the bud as part of my first Inside The Numbers article of the 2023 football season.

Back on August 11, Brent Pry talked about some things he liked and didn’t like from the opening days of August camp. Tech’s wide receivers have been praised since the spring, so one of his comments went by without mention. I want to bring it back up, though:

“To be honest, we’ve dropped too many balls,” Pry said that day.

To be fair, nobody has mentioned drops as being an issue since then. But I do want to highlight it as something to watch for in Week 1 because a couple of Virginia Tech receivers have racked up some big drop rates in the past, specifically Ali Jennings, Da’Wain Lofton and Da’Quan Felton.
