Virginia Tech signed 26 high schoolers in its 2023 class, the first complete recruiting cycle Brent Pry and his staff had after arriving in Blacksburg. As such, you figure there’s plenty of alignment in the type of player the Hokies picked to play in their systems.

Tech burned the redshirt on five freshmen from its 2022 class — late-season breakout Mansoor Delane, Dae’Quan Wright, Tucker Holloway, Bryce Duke and Keyshawn Burgos. A glance at the 2023 group and it’s easy to get to six right off the bat, with a few more who are on the cusp.

Let’s go through the whole class and put them in categories for how likely they are to go past the four-game redshirt threshold this season. Remember, this isn’t always an indication of talent. That’s involved to some degree, but it’s also about readiness and opportunity.
