It’s a week and a half into preseason practice and Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry has been encouraged by the Hokies’ progress, particularly when compared to this time last year.

“We’re just doing a lot of good things that are showing signs of a good football team,” Pry said after Friday’s workout. “I’m just seeing a good team, more efficient. We’re doing things more the right way.”

Pry said that doesn’t mean there aren’t mistakes and execution issues to be cleaned up, but he’s liked the way the team has handled new obstacles.

“Even when we’re thrown curveballs and there’s things that we’re doing that are a little bit different or we’re introducing a new formation or we’re introducing new pressures, they’re just adjusting, they’re working together,” Pry said. “It’s just a more squared-away group after seven or eight practices than I would have thought last year.”
