August 1 marked the first day, per NCAA recruiting rules, that college football programs were allowed to make contact with members of the 2025 recruiting class. That applied to All Saints Episcopal (Tx.) quarterback Kelden Ryan, though after this weekend his interaction was a bit different.

On Sunday, Ryan gave his commitment to Virginia Tech. On Tuesday, he talked over the phone with Hokies coach Brent Pry. But there wasn’t any recruiting of Ryan during the conversation.

“It was just having a good conversation about what to do, going on from here,” Ryan said. “And how we can approach this season in recruiting together. It was more just players and getting players around me. I’m locked in, they’re locked in, so getting a few guys that we can build around me and get Virginia Tech back to where it should be.”
