CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Having officially handed off play-calling duties at the end of 2022, Hokies head coach Brent Pry doesn’t spend as much time as he used to in the defensive meeting room, though he admits to getting a little shaky anytime he walks by, his coordinator roots giving him a strong urge to just pop in and instruct.

“It’s hard for me, I’m not going to lie,” Pry said during Virginia Tech’s turn on stage at the ACC Kickoff on Wednesday. “I might grab [Josh] Fuga once in a while and get him straightened out, make sure he gets in the right gap and steps with the right foot.”

He knows his role as the program’s big whistle, though.

“I’m excited about being just a head coach. I really am,” Pry said. “I need to do a better job there, and I’m looking forward to being there for our offense, our special teams and our defense.”
