1) In the past you have used Power 5 offer lists when evaluating recruits. How do the past two classes (assuming the 2024 verbals sign) compare to 2021/2022? The star ranking at least has a value for a calculation. But having an offer from PSU or TN vs one from UVA or GT would be seen in a different light. It seems like we are up against more prominent schools especially for 2024. – HardTimes

Chris Coleman: Using a Power 5 offer list to rank recruits isn’t quite as valid as it was a few years ago, so I’ve pretty much stopped doing it. There is more information at our fingertips these days. Now, with official visits pushed up to the summer, we can use our common sense to determine that some of those “offers” aren’t committable.

I know of at least two players who have tried to commit to Virginia Tech but have been told that they can’t currently commit because there is no room, and the Hokies have players at their position higher on the board. In fact, one of those two players had his official visit canceled.

Official visits are key. Schools can only host 56 official visitors per year, so they aren’t going to waste official visits on prospects they aren’t serious about. They may recruit a guy heavily, they may “offer” him, but if they feel good about players at that position who are higher on their board, then that guy may not be invited for an official visit.
