What Is Virginia Tech Getting In James Jennette?

The Hokies got themselves an uber-athletic but raw DE in James Jennette. Jennette is a Durham native who played a year at William & Mary before going cross-country to Los Angeles for a JUCO year at College of the Canyons. He had an eye on the big-time and a hankering to get closer to home, and he found that opportunity in Blacksburg. Check out his highlight reel:

There are all kinds of stuff to like. He runs guys down from behind. He can check the back and still chase the QB on a Zone Read. He makes clean plays in the backfield. He doesn’t get pushed off the ball. He can spill a blocker, run the circle and tackle the runner, which is one of the hardest things to do in football. Heck, he can cover deep downfield. Did you see him on the wheel route? He was on the LOS and he got back there and nearly had a pick. And look at this separation:

He doesn’t stand around watching the ball, either. He’s always down the field chasing the runner:

So how did this guy end up with only 1.5 sacks on the season?
