Last season we saw a lot of movement at linebacker for Virginia Tech. Multiple players lining up at multiple positions. If they didn’t play multiple spots in games, they were playing multiple spots in practice.

Here are the three main examples…

Keli Lawson: As a redshirt freshman, Lawson practiced at both Sam and Will. Early on, he was viewed mostly as a Sam (wide side) linebacker, but he eventually settled in at Will and played well over the last three games of the season.

Jayden McDonald: As a redshirt freshman, McDonald practiced at all three linebacker positions last year, just two years removed from playing strong safety for Salem High School. When he got on the field in a game, he played Will.
