Though Hermitage (Va.) three-star running back Jeremiah Coney entered this past weekend committed to Appalachian State, his mind had been elsewhere for a bit before that.

Coney officially visited Virginia Tech, and on Saturday night he flipped that commitment to the Hokies. For Coney, it wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction, but rather the culmination of a recruiting process that had been months in the making.

Coney did not attend any of Virginia Tech’s games this season while committed to the Mountaineers. But he visited Lane Stadium for three games during the 2021 season, and entering his official visit weekend, Coney said his mind was all but made up.
