Thinking back to when he was in middle school, before he had played a snap of football, Jonathan Pennix had already thought about the college he would attend.

“Virginia Tech, that was a college dream,” he said. “I realized it’s a big deal, especially in the state of Virginia. It’s like Alabama to people in Virginia.”

But even after he’d become a sought-after football recruit, as Rivals.com’s No. 37 player in Virginia for the class, the Hokies weren’t a sure thing for Pennix. He had to wait, much longer than he had hoped, for the opportunity. But when it came, Pennix took it, as he committed to Virginia Tech on Oct. 13. Now he’s ready for the chance to make an impact at the school he’s long revered.
