The announcement came on Saturday, but for Sierra Canyon (Calif.) three-star defensive back DJ Harvey, much of that choice was formed on March 1.

That weekend, Harvey and his Premium Sports seven-on-seven teammates visited Virginia Tech. They were treated to a ‘midnight madness’ style visit from Beau Davidson, the Hokies’ assistant director of player personnel, in which they all took a tour of the facilities at midnight, the beginning of the open recruiting period.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, that was one of Harvey’s final in-person college visits. It continued to stick with him, through a top eight, then a top five, and by Saturday it was the commitment.
