Yesterday I promised you a formula to rank the top recruiting schools across college football. It’s not a perfect formula, and let’s face it, nobody will ever get it 100% right when it comes to recruiting.
It’s simple. If you sign the No. 1 class in the country, you get 25 points. If you sign the No. 25 class in the country, you get one point. No. 2 is 24 points, and No. 24 is two points. Etc., etc. Like I said, it’s not perfect. It stops at No. 25. But since you’re highly unlikely to win national championships without signing at least top 15 classes, I suppose it doesn’t really matter that the counting stops at No. 25 in my formula.
I total up recruiting points from the 2008-17 (10 years) recruiting class rankings on Rivals.com, and that produces the ranking show in the following table.
I also include (for information only) the number of national championships during the BCS/Playoff era (1998-present), along with current stadium capacity, and total athletic department revenue (2015-16 numbers, unless otherwise noted).
