Virginia Tech won another big in-state recruiting battle on Sunday when linebacker Dylan Rivers announced his commitment to the Hokies.

Rivers is a 4-star recruit from Stephens City, VA. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker had been a Penn State commit since November 2015, but Virginia Tech never stopped recruiting him. Rivers last visited Virginia Tech on Dec. 10 and has been mulling the decision since then.
Rivers’ commitment gives Virginia Tech three of the top-10 players in the state of Virginia, according to TechSideline’s rankings. Virginia Tech already held commitments from Tahj Capehart (No. 9) and Devon Hunter (No. 1), who announced his commitment on Friday.
Virginia Tech now holds commitments from four linebackers for the Class of 2017. Aundre Kearney has already enrolled with the Hokies, while Rayshard Ashby and Jaylen Griffin will join the team next semester.
Put in some work at maybe u can start, kinda tic but not really! Welcome!
Bud has got to be loving this! Keep them coming!
Outstanding! Welcome aboard Mr. Rivers!
Not only is this great news because we scored a top recruit, but we need to stop Penn State from poaching in Virginia it’s like they used to back in the day.
I know Bud is excited. They are really loading up his defense!
Welcome to the Hokie Huddle …
Fantastic..Welcome Dylan rivers!!! Great to have you a part of the Hokie Nation!
So…DH commitment was a Big deal? Thats what I heard. Guess it’s true!
VA is HOME! Thanks for staying Dylan!! What a great weekend!! Your turn, Mr. Becton…C’mon Home!!
I am not sure if Becton is will be effective at 345lbs of beef but I certainly would take him just to find out. Getting Rivers is definitely a big get as we finally get a touted linebacker we haven’t seen in over 4 years. But shooooot….. I want the entire Roanoke Times Top 5 to flip and select Tech personally:
Khalan Laborn RB (Florida State) and either one or all of the Top DE in the state such as Jordan Williams Cox DE (Clemson), Luiji Vilain DE (Michigan), and Yetur Matos DE (Penn State)
Speechless……….but this news is something to be speechless about. Great news for the Hokie Nation. Great work by our coaching staff! He won’t regret becoming a Hokie – welcome home!!!!
Welcome Mr Rivers… we already love and respect you! Can’t wait to see you in Maroon and Orange
Welcome home to Hokie Nation, Dylan! We’re glad to have you… it will be a great ride…
247 has him #8 in VA and his girlfriend is pretty
Big win for the Hokies. Momentum building. Keep it going!
What rank is Dylan in the state? You say he makes the third top 10 recruit, and say the ranks of the other 2, but you don’t mention where Dylan is ranked….
TSL/CC has Rivers at #10 in VA with 15 P5 offers.
Welcome HOME Dylan
I want to thank Tech’s lead recruiter, Dylan’s girlfriend, for getting him to commit to Tech. 😉
Welcome to the Hokie family Dylan! Respect your decision and glad to have you staying home. #statement17
Down the interstate and one right turn.
