Asheboro (N.C.) defensive lineman Nick Coe cemented his status as a top prospect with an impressive showing at The Opening in Charlotte this spring. At the event, the standout rising senior measured in at 6’5.5”, 269 pounds, and ran the 40 in 4.76 seconds (electronically timed).

“He carries his weight really well and he’s as strong as a bear,” Asheboro head coach Owen George said of Coe, who is also an accomplished wrestler. Coe made it to the finals in the heavyweight division last week at the AAU Scholastic Duals at Walt Disney World.

Coe plans to attend a wrestling camp this month. Otherwise, the focus will be football. He will travel with his coaches down to Auburn for a camp/visit. Plans to travel to Florida State (for camp) and Virginia Tech (visit) this month are also in the works, with a trip to Miami a possibility as well.

Coach George provided his take on which schools may be the top contenders at this point.
