Coleman Fox grew up rooting for Virginia Tech, where his father, Rich, played football for head coach Frank Beamer from 1986-1989. Coleman’s mother graduated from Tech as well. So there is no question that October 2 – the day Virginia Tech came through and offered a scholarship to the Salem High School (VA) senior running back – was an exciting day for the Fox family.
Exactly one week later, Coleman verbally committed to the Hokies.
“Right after I got the offer, I talked with my family. My mom and dad were very excited. My dad was right there when I got the offer. All week we talked about the pros and cons of following in my dad’s footsteps. By Thursday [of last week], I decided it would be crazy not to commit,” Fox said.
“I called Bryan Stinespring on Thursday night (October 9) and let him know. I wanted to keep it quiet through Friday, especially with my team having a game on Friday night. I didn’t want it to be a distraction.”
