Mitchell Commits To Hokies

Virginia Tech has scored its 13th verbal commitment of the 2014 recruiting class.  Paramus Catholic (Paramus, N.J.) offensive lineman Billy Ray Mitchell  jumped on board early this evening, accepting a scholarship offer from Tech over a handful of other offers, including Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Southern Mississippi, and Syracuse.  Ole Miss and others expressed serious interest.

Mitchell has informed Tech primary recruiter Jeff Grimes of his intentions.  He’ll speak with head coach Frank Beamer tomorrow.

Grimes “was fired up.  I was fired up,” Mitchell said, recalling the new Virginia Tech offensive line coach’s reaction to his commitment.  “He told me he was happy and he can’t wait to get after it on the field.  I can’t wait to talk to Coach Beamer tomorrow.”

The Garden State standout loved an unofficial visit he made to Blacksburg back in May.  In comments tonight, Mitchell reveals he admired Tech long before the spring visit.
