Hokies to host NCAA Regionals

Virginia Tech will host the Blacksburg Regional this weekend at English Field, and they’ll begin their NCAA Tournament play by taking on UConn, the Champions of the Big East Conference.  Coastal Carolina and Oklahoma round out what will be a very tough regional in Blacksburg.

Coastal Carolina, the #3 seed of the Regional, will take on #2 seed Oklahoma at 1pm on Friday at English Field.  #1 seed Virginia Tech will follow against #4 seed UConn at 5:30pm on Friday evening.  There will be two more games on Saturday in the double-elimination format, and the regional could continue though Monday if necessary.

We’ll have a full preview of the Blacksburg Regional later this week.  Here’s a quick rundown of the four teams…

#1 Virginia Tech: 38-20 overall, #11 RPI, #3 SOS
#2 Oklahoma: 40-19 overall, #34 RPI, #99 SOS
#3 Coastal Carolina: 37-21 overall, #50 RPI, #70 SOS
#4 UConn: 34-26 overall, #98 RPI, #126 SOS

UConn was not going to be selected for the NCAA Tournament, but they won the Big East Tournament over the weekend as the #8 seed.

Coastal Carolina is a very good program, and they beat regional host Kansas State this season. They also took two out of three games against Georgia Tech, who is in the NCAA Tournament yet again.

Oklahoma did not play a particularly tough schedule, but they won 40 games overall and won the Big 12 Conference Tournament this weekend.

Tickets for the Blacksburg Regional will be sold at the Lane Stadium ticket office on Wednesday and Friday from 9am through 5pm.  They will also be sold at English Field on game day, and those tickets will be cash only.  It is strongly recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance.
