Post-Spring offensive roundtable: Part 2

In the second and final part of our offensive roundtable, GMSAHokie, Raleigh Hokie and Chris Coleman talk about Tech’s young wide receivers, as well as true freshman offensive tackle Jonathan McLaughlin .

1) How do you feel about Tech’s wide receivers?

GMSA: I am probably more excited about VT’s wide receivers’ potential for improvement than any other position group on the team.  I have already spoken about how much extra toughness I think we will see from this unit this year, just based on the personalities, but I also think the group itself has big play potential.  Last year, the offense was dramatically affected by poor blocking on the perimeter in the running game as well as poor play from the wide receivers in route running and their inability to make site adjustments in the passing game.  I think this group will perform leaps and bounds above the group last year in these critical areas.

Joshua Stanford

Joshua Stanford (r-Fr.) is a guy I am very high on.  He is a solid, talented performer who is very smart.  I also really like Joel Caleb (r-Fr.).  Caleb probably needs another year in the system, but I look at him as the next great Hokie split end in the mold of Jarrett Boykin, Josh Morgan, or Ernest Wilford.  In fact, the player I think he is most like in that group is probably Josh Morgan.  And, yes, I know he is currently listed as a flanker, but I think split end is where he ends up although he as the versatility to play both.
