My Theory on Logan’s “Garbage” Start

Logan Thomas described his performance on Monday night as “garbage”.  I wouldn’t go that far, though it was far from perfect.  Thomas didn’t get off to a great start, though he obviously turned it on in the fourth quarter and fueled Virginia Tech’s comeback.

In college football, we see a lot of quarterbacks come out shaky.  They need to take that first hit and get the jitters out before they settle down and start throwing the ball accurately.  Logan Thomas carried the ball six times in the first quarter against Georgia Tech, and I think it had the opposite effect.

Logan Thomas doesn’t run out of bounds, and he doesn’t slide.  He initiates contact.  If you are playing a physical football game, and you are delivering the blows, you are going to get keyed up.  That adrenaline is going to get flowing, particularly in the first game of the season.  The coaching staff used Logan Thomas as a battering ram in that first quarter (he was on pace to carry the ball 24 times), and his blood was up.
