Hokies Shake Up Secondary Depth Chart Slightly

The coaching staff decided to shake up their depth chart a bit in the secondary.  With the youth and inexperience back there, don’t look for this to be the only time that things get switched around.  Carl Jackson moved from field corner to boundary corner, Davion Tookes moved from boundary to field, Michael Cole moved from rover to free safety and Dahman McKinnon moved from free safety to whip.

What were the reasons for those moves?  Let’s take a look, starting with the cornerback moves.

Previously, Tech had true freshman Donovan Riley working as the #2 boundary, with fellow true freshman Davion Tookes as the #3 boundary.  Carl Jackson (5-9, 174, r-So.) has much more experience than those guys, and the walk-on showed improvement in the spring.  He was moved to boundary corner and bumped up to #2 on the depth chart.  That gets more experience at boundary behind Antone Exum.  Tookes is unlikely to play this year, in my opinion, and the coaches generally like to let their true freshman corners learn at the field spot.
