Frank Beamer received some good news the morning of July 14. Prior to the Hokies’ one-day camp, Ponte Vedra (FL) rising senior Kyle Chung accepted the longtime Tech head coach’s scholarship offer. As it turns out, it was Beamer himself who truly sold the 6’4″, 260-pound offensive line/tight end prospect on the school.
“I really didn’t know what I would do when I went there,” said Chung, who was in Blacksburg on an unofficial visit. “I had it in my mind, but I was planning on not doing it. Being around Coach Beamer and the team, I just felt it was the place I wanted to be.”
Accompanied by his father, Eugene, Kyle arrived at Tech the night of July 12. He was given a tour of the campus and facilities on Friday. Kyle and his father met with Coach Beamer Friday afternoon, at which point another meeting was scheduled for Saturday morning.
“The tour was great and everything, but I still wasn’t planning on committing the whole trip,” Chung said. “Coach Beamer sold the program to me when we met Saturday morning.”
