Junior RB Shining For Christchurch

Christchurch (VA) is rolling so far in 2011, defeating its five opponents by an average of 33.4 points per game. One of coach Ed Homer’s biggest offensive threats is junior running back Jordan Wallace , who has gained close to 600 yards and scored nine touchdowns in the five wins. After playing multiple positions last season (his first at Christchurch), the 6’1″, 180-pound junior has taken advantage of his opportunity as the team’s primary ballcarrier.

“Jordan moved to our starting tailback position this year after playing wide receiver and backing up our senior tailback last year,” Homer said. “His strengths are his lateral moves and his vision, but also solid open-field speed. Last year he returned two kick-offs and two interceptions for touchdowns, as well as several bombs from wide receiver. Jordan is not starting on defense this year and we know that we are lucky to have enough depth to be able to do this. This is a first for us.”

Wallace lived in Northern Virginia before moving to the Hampton Roads area in the sixth grade. He attended Bethel High School in Hampton his freshman year before transferring to Christchurch, where he plays on the varsity football and basketball squads. He has received college interest on some level for both sports. Basketball is his first love, but football may be his future.

“I’m going to wait and see what type of interest I get for football,” said Wallace, who had 17 carries for 159 yards and three scores in last week’s win over Trinity Christian of North Carolina. “If it’s pretty good, I won’t do AAU next summer. Instead, I’ll go to a whole bunch of camps.”
