Anson (Wadesboro, N.C.) linebacker Stephone Anthony , one of the top 2011 class prospects in the nation, was in Blacksburg last Saturday on an unofficial visit. Virginia Tech, which defeated ECU that day, impressed the 6-3, 220-pound standout, who answers whether or not the University of Florida remains the favorite for his signature.
“Yes sir, I would say Florida is still the favorite,” Anthony answered. “I really do need to get down there again and then I’ll really know where I am.”
It seems safe to say that Saturday’s experience helped Virginia Tech, which joins Clemson, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and N.C. State in the 5-star senior’s final six.
“It impacted me a lot,” said Anthony, referring to the Virginia Tech visit. “What I like about Virginia Tech is that it’s three-and-a-half hours away from me. It has what I want in a school. And I could be coached by the best defensive coach in the country in Bud Foster. It would be a good opportunity for me to go in and compete.”
