Thomas Named #2 Quarterback

The Virginia Tech coaching staff met on Sunday, and on Monday they announced
that Logan Thomas has been named the #2 quarterback. Ju-Ju Clayton will be #3.
Both quarterbacks will continue to get work throughout August, but Thomas
will be working with the #2 offense from this point forward.

Thomas (6-6, 242, r-Fr.) went 9-of-17 for 82 yards in Saturday’s scrimmage.
It was perhaps his best overall scrimmage in a Tech uniform. Clayton (6-1, 220,
r-So.) was 3-of-8 for 36 yards. Thomas is bigger, faster and has a better arm
than Clayton, and therefore has the most potential. From this point on he’ll get
more reps, which should accelerate his progression.

Thomas did not get any reps at tight end during the scrimmage after running a
few plays from that position during practice last week. After naming him the #2
quarterback, the coaching staff will have to decide if they want to use their
r-freshman in any other capacity this season. Thomas was the #1 tight end
recruit in the country coming out high school.
