The Latest With Top LB Travis Hughes

Travis Hughes may not be certain as to where he will end up playing his college ball, but at this point there is a solid chance he’ll land in the ACC. The 6-1, 215-pound junior, a linebacker out of Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA), has three ACC programs currently atop his list.

“[Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Tech] are very strong on my list,” Hughes said. “N.C. State is also a strong choice for me. UVa is still in there strong, actually, and Clemson is there too. Coach Chavis from LSU is coming [Wednesday]. It’s really crazy. I’m still going through the evaluation stage.”

Hughes, who says he has “19 or 20” official scholarship offers including offers from all of the schools listed above, discussed what stands out about the top three programs.

“The thing with UNC and Virginia Tech is that they are established programs right now,” Hughes said. “Virginia Tech probably could go on to a National Championship on the route they are going right now. UNC also has a great opportunity next year by playing LSU in the first game. They could be real high in the BCS rankings.
