The Latest on Dynamic DE Kareem Martin

6-6, 230-pound defensive end prospect Kareem Martin , an outstanding athlete who excels on the gridiron and the basketball court, has become one of the most highly recruited defensive prospects in the state of North Carolina’s 2010 class. Roanoke Rapids head coach Russell Weinstein updated the latest on his star prospect, who totaled 121 tackles including five sacks in 2008.

“From the major schools, he has got 13 offers,” Weinstein reported. “He has Penn State down to Georgia Tech and as far west as Stanford. He has been offered by all of the ACC schools except for Boston College and the Florida schools. He is still in his evaluation period. He took a couple of visits this past weekend, to Clemson and Georgia Tech. He is slated to go to Wake Forest [today]. Later in the month he is planning on going to Virginia Tech. He definitely wants to make that visit.”

Martin has focused on recruiting throughout the spring and summer, taking visits to many of the schools that have offered. The visit to Virginia Tech will likely come later in the month, but the talented athlete may begin to narrow things down following that visit. Exactly when a commitment will come, though, remains unclear.

“I’m really not sure exactly what his plans are,” Weinstein said. “I know he is in his evaluation process now. He wants to visit the schools he wants to find out more about. In the not too distant future, I feel like he’ll narrow it down and start heading toward a decision. Originally, he thought he would get it done before the season, but he is not so sure now because he has so many schools to consider. A lot of schools are high on Kareem.”
