Incoming Freshman DE Reflects on Recruitment

Boston College, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia. Brooke Point (Stafford, VA) defensive end Lanford Collins certainly had a large selection of schools to choose from, but after making official visits to four schools the 6-4, 240-pound senior chose Virginia Tech. A month before he is to arrive in Blacksburg, Collins took time to reflect on his recruitment and look ahead to his first year at Virginia Tech.

Collins’ four official visits began in October, when he tripped to Boston College, and ended with a late January visit to Virginia Tech, traveling to Penn State and UVa in between.

“It just came down to where I felt most comfortable towards the end,” Collins said. “I felt most comfortable with Virginia Tech. I felt like I couldn’t go wrong with choosing them. Also, they are known for d-ends.”

Collins admittedly didn’t follow the careers of past Tech standout ends, but he is familiar with those currently on the roster. He is also familiar with defensive coordinator Bud Foster, who was a significant factor in the Brooke Point star’s ultimate decision.
