Virginia Tech’s 2009 football schedule was released on Thursday. It includes
an exciting month of September, a great home Thursday night game in late
October, and a November slate that will put the Hokies on the road in three of

We already knew the Hokies would be opening the season against Alabama, and
that they’d get Nebraska at home in the month of September. Miami also jumps up
from their usual spot in the latter part of the season to September 26. Virginia
Tech will have the Cornhuskers and Hurricanes in Lane Stadium for two straight
games in late September. Also, the Hokies will be playing three of the most
tradition-rich programs in the country in the month of September.
As usual, the Hokies will have back-to-back Thursday night games in late
October and early November. They’ll host Coastal Division rival UNC on October
29, and then travel to East Carolina on November 5. The ECU game was originally
scheduled for September, but they basically flip-flopped with Miami, who the
Hokies generally play in November.
Three of Virginia Tech’s four November games are on the road, but they are
all very winnable. Senior Day at Lane Stadium will be on November 21 against NC
State.
Tech is coming off a 10-4 season during which they won the ACC Championship
and the Orange Bowl. The Hokies are expected to be the preseason favorite to win
the ACC yet again in 2009.
