This morning, we posted an article analyzing possible changes to the Virginia
Tech football coaching staff. A good portion of the analysis was based on a
quote attributed to Coach Frank Beamer that appeared in the Richmond
Times-Dispatch. There’s only one problem: The quote was from Tech center Ryan
Shuman, not Frank Beamer.
Since the misattribution of the quote greatly affected the underlying premise
and structure of the article, we feel that the article is severely compromised,
and we have pulled the article from the web site.
For the record, the passage from the
Richmond Times-Dispatch article that we took in error was as follows:
“You know, winning fixes everything,” he said. “We won an
ACC championship. They’ve done a great job with a lot of inexperience this
year. So I don’t think any changes need to be made. And it’s not up to me in
the first place.”
Since the article was titled “Beamer will keep coaching staff
intact,” we mistakenly assumed the quote was from Coach Beamer. However,
the paragraph that preceded the quote references Ryan Shuman, who is the source
of the quote, not Coach Beamer.
We apologize to our readers for our error and for any confusion it caused,
and we also apologize to Coach Beamer for the mistake.
