Virginia Tech hadn’t expressed a significant amount of interest in Dinwiddie (VA) linebacker Bradley Johnson until a few weeks ago, when the staff began to send handwritten letters to the 6-1, 210-pound junior. Primary recruiter Jim Cavanaugh made a stop by Dinwiddie last week, and yesterday morning informed Dinwiddie head coach Billy Mills that the Hokies would be offering Johnson an official scholarship offer.

Tech’s offer is an important one for Johnson, who now boasts six Division 1 scholarship offers.

“I’m really blessed to get that offer,” said Johnson, who also boasts offers from Duke, East Carolina, Maryland, Richmond and West Virginia. “I’ve been waiting for Virginia Tech to offer me, actually. That was the school I grew up watching.”

Johnson has taken unofficial visits to each of the five schools that had offered previously – he said the experiences were “basically the same” – and plans to head to Blacksburg very soon, possibly as early as this month.
