Offer Profile: Concord (DE) WR Justin Brown

Virginia Tech is one of 15 Division 1 programs to offer an official scholarship to Concord High School (Wilmington) standout Justin Brown , who is one of the top 2009 class prospects in the state of Delaware. At 6-3, 205 pounds, Brown possesses a nice combination of size and athleticism.

“The fact that he is almost 6-4 and he runs very well is impressive. He runs about a 4.55 in the 40,” said Concord assistant head coach Greg Mitchell said of Brown, who also has been offered by Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, UNC, N.C. State, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers and South Carolina, among others. “From my standpoint, he has some of the best hands of any player I’ve ever coached. He just has a little edge on most kids we play. He jumps well. He runs well. He has all the tools.”

A standout on both sides of the ball, Brown earned first-team all-state honors at defensive back and second-team all-state honors at wide receiver last season as a junior. He helped Concord, a program that has captured the Division 2 state championship in three out of the last five years, achieve a 10-2 record in 2007.

“He is a fabulous defensive back because he covers the field so well,” Mitchell said. “On offense, we are more of a running team so he doesn’t have big numbers, but he made a lot of big plays for us this year. We ran through a lot of teams last season, so we didn’t have to pass. He only had about 19 catches, but the ones he did have were big. He had 19 catches and nine of those were touchdowns. Our philosophy last year was to try to get him the ball 10 to 15 times a game, but that didn’t always work out for whatever reason. I think that is going to change next year.”
