Monacan (Richmond, VA) offensive tackle Justin Gilbert has taken some time away from the recruiting process over the past few weeks, choosing instead to focus on his senior season, which begins tomorrow night versus Mills Godwin. A decision likely isn’t too far off for the 6-5, 280-pound prospect, though, and two schools currently top his list.

“Right now, [Virginia] Tech and Maryland are probably right there even,” Gilbert said. “With football starting, it has really been out of my mind for the past couple of weeks.”

Gilbert has been offered by the Hokies and the Terrapins as well as James Madison and Richmond, among others. Boston College and Clemson are among the major Division 1A programs expressing heavy interest and the talented big man has spoken with coaches from each of those schools this month.

For now, Gilbert is focused on the two favorites. He made an unofficial visit to the University of Maryland last month for preseason practice and plans to visit Virginia Tech for the Ohio game later this month.
