Camp Report: TN DE T.J. Walker

William Blount (Maryville, TN) defensive end prospect T.J. Walker attended Virginia Tech’s camp last Saturday in hopes of receiving his first official Division 1A scholarship offer. The 6-3, 221-pound rising senior did not return home with an offer, but he did turn in a good performance and remains very much on Virginia Tech’s recruiting radar.

“I surprised myself in some of the drills,” Walker said of his camp performance. “I think I did better than anyone else at my position in the 30. I was feeling pretty good.”

Walker recalled what Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer indicated about his offer status. He expects to hear from Charley Wiles as soon as this week for more information, but a definitive answer on an offer may not come until after the July 14th camp.

“After the camp, I went to Coach Beamer’s office,” Walker recalled. “Me, my dad, Coach Wiles and Coach Beamer were in there. Coach Beamer said he really liked the way I play. He wants to see how much size I can get on, but he really liked the way I play. I think the camp helped me out, but they want to wait until after the next camp before making a decision on an offer. They just want to look at a few other guys first. I guess I’ll just sit and hope.”
