Powell Puts Recruitment on Hold

Tydreke Powell had scheduled official visits to Florida and Penn State, respectively, for the first two weekends of October, but the 6-4, 285-pound defensive tackle recruit decided against making those trips. With Hertford County (Ahoskie, N.C.) at 8-1 on the season, the four-star talent now just wants to focus on the remainder of his senior season.

“I’m just going to try and get those visits rescheduled after the season,” Powell said of visits to Florida, Penn State and Auburn. Auburn was scheduled for next month. “I don’t want any distractions. This town has never gotten to see a championship team, so we’re working real hard for that. I’ll try to set the visits up after football is over, during basketball season.”

Hertford County has two more regular season games, followed by the playoffs. Powell still wants to visit those programs he had originally set official visits to and is still considering several other ACC programs including Virginia Tech.

“I do want to take visits to those schools and we’ll see what happens after that,” Powell said. “I’m still considering North Carolina. N.C. State is starting to play well. I’m not going to kick those schools to the curb. I’m still considering Virginia Tech. Florida State is still in the mix a little bit. One of their coaches stuck around our school all day Friday and came to a pep rally and everything. I was shocked about that.”
