Josh Hyman Arrested, Suspended

Hyman Arrested, Suspended

Virginia Tech will be without one of their top receivers on Thursday night. WSLS reported on Wednesday night, and other media sources verified, that Hyman was arrested last Friday for a DUI and did not travel with the team to Boston College on Wednesday.

Virginia Tech sports information director Dave Smith told the Roanoke Times that the suspension would likely only be for the Boston College game, which means that Hyman should be back in action for Southern Miss on October 21.

Hyman is currently Virginia Tech’s second leading receiver, from a receptions standpoint. The r-junior has 13 catches for 102 yards. Despite his high number of catches, he is only sixth on the team in receiving yards. Hyman was not a starter, instead sharing the split end duties with starter Josh Morgan and backup Justin Harper.

Hyman is the second Virginia Tech receiver to be suspended in as many games. Wide receiver Josh Morgan, along with defensive end Chris Ellis, were suspended for the Georgia Tech game after they were arrested for obstructing justice. Morgan was also charged with disorderly conduct.

Traveling to Boston College in place of Hyman will be r-freshman walk-on receiver Brandon Dillard. This is the first time Dillard has been a member of the travel squad. He is known for his blazing speed, and he could factor into the receiving corps in the future.

George Bell Update

George Bell has still not made a decision regarding his future with the Virginia Tech football team. Running backs coach Billy Hite recommended to Bell that he give up football last month because of recurring knee problems. Bell has taken several weeks off from the team to give his knees a chance to rest and to come to a decision.

As of now, that decision has not been made. After Bell took his first week off from practice, he reported back, saying that his knee felt much better. He then requested another week off, and we haven’t heard much about him since.

Bell has scheduled another meeting with Hite and head trainer Mike Goforth for this coming Monday. It remains to be seen if he will have a decision by then.
