2005 Scrimmage Notes: Branden Ore Stands Out in Third Scrimmage

Branden Ore and George Bell combined for 155 yards on 18 carries, and Ore scored three touchdowns to highlight the
Hokies’ third preseason scrimmage. Josh Morgan caught five passes for 91 yards, and all three quarterbacks posted good
statistics.

Ore scored on runs of 51, 3, and 9 yards, carrying 7 times for 85 yards (12 yards per carry). Ore’s three touchdowns
were the only scores of the scrimmage. Fellow backup tailback George Bell rushed 11 times for 70 yards (6.4 yards per
carry), as leading tailbacks Cedric Humes (6 carries, 16 yards) and Mike Imoh (did not play) got very little work. Imoh
sat out as a precaution, as he had fluid drained from his knee two weeks ago.

Marcus Vick (9-of-13, 119 yards) played well. Backups Cory Holt (5-of-8, 63 yards) and Sean Glennon (2-of-3, 11
yards) also posted high completion percentages.

In addition to Morgan’s five catches, Jeremy Gilchrist caught four balls (32 yards) and Eddie Royal had two (26
yards).

Defensively, the Hokies were led by Blake Warren with six tackles. Darryl Tapp had four tackles and two sacks, which
came on consecutive plays. Brandon Pace made field goals of 25 and 29 yards, but missed from 45 yards out, leaving him
9-of-10 in Tech’s three scrimmages this fall.

The team will have a scripted scrimmage Sunday night at 8 o’clock, then will take Monday off before resuming practice
Tuesday with game-week preparation for NC State. The game with the Wolfpack will be Sunday, September 4th at 7:15 on
ESPN2.
