Slocum Ready for Road Trip

6-5, 335 pound Marques Slocum will resume his summer unofficial visits next week, when he travels to North Carolina and North Carolina State, respectively. The “Southern swing” will be the first of many visits throughout the rest of the summer for Slocum, who is one of the top defensive line prospects in the country.

“On the 12th [of July], we’re going to make a Southern swing to UNC and NC State,” Slocum said. He’s making the visits with several other players and coaches. “On the 19th [of July], we’re going down to Miami. I’ll try and go to Florida and Georgia Tech around that time also. After that, we’re going on a big Midwest swing. We’re going to Michigan, Notre Dame, Iowa, Purdue, all those schools.”

Earlier this year, Slocum made unofficial visits to Boston College (a few weeks ago), Maryland, Penn State, Syracuse, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. These visits will be very important in narrowing the list of 28 scholarship offers to a solid top ten before the start of his senior season.

“That’s why we’re taking all these trips this summer, so I can get a good feel for most of the schools who have offered me,” Slocum said. “A couple days after we’re done, I’m going to sit with my coach and look at every school out and up and make a top ten. I want a top ten so I can see how those teams are doing during the season and how they are looking for the coming years. After my season, I’ll narrow it to a top five and then I look forward to taking all five visits.”
