Top Target: Rory Nicol

Rory Nicol is a throw-back type of player. At least that’s how Beaver Area High School (PA) Head Football Coach Jeff Beltz describes his star 6-5, 250 pound tight end.

“He is a throw-back type of tight end,” Beltz said. “He’s a big, bruising tight end who blocks really well. He’s the focal point of our entire offense as well as the focal point of the opposing defense, which makes it tough for him to catch a lot of passes. He does that very well however. Rory is an excellent all-around athlete. He runs the 110 meter hurdles for track, so he runs well.”

Nicol tends to agree with his coach’s assessment, however he does not give personal accomplishments much thought. He is more interested in helping his team win, which the Beaver Area varsity was able to do a lot this season.

“He’s (Coach Beltz) convinced me I’m a throw-back,” Nicol said with a laugh. “In the conference we play in, and I guess anywhere for that matter, running is a big key to winning. I get the same thrill out of putting someone on their back as I do catching a touchdown pass. I really just love everything about the position.”
