Virginia received its 17th commitment this afternoon, when All-American tight end prospect Jonathan Stupar of State College Area High School in State College, Pennsylvania, announced for the Cavaliers during a chat on ESPN.com. He chose Virginia over Florida State, Iowa, Arizona State, and NC State.

The following is from the transcript of the ESPN.com chat.

“I will attend the University of Virginia,” said Stupar during his ESPN chat session. “The major reasons is the coaching staff, most of whom has NFL experience. Coach Andy Heck, coach Groh coached with my uncle, coach Musgrave played for a while. It’s a great academic program, there are mountains, the ocean is close. If for some reason I couldn’t play football, I think it is where I would fit in the most. It’s also close enough for my parents to come watch.”

Stupar led the State College Little Lions to a 6-4 record this season, impressive considering the teams’ 0-3 start. For the year, Stupar had 45 receptions for 527 yards and four touchdown receptions, including a season finale performance of five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown in a 35-19 victory over favored Williamsport.
