As of today, Virginia Tech has held the Commonwealth Cup 3,791 days, since taking possession of it on November 27, 2004. That’s a really long time, and a lot of silver polish to keep that thing shiny.
By the time the two teams play again on November 28, 2015, the Hokies will have possessed the cup over 4,000 days (4,018, to be exact).
How much time is that? How many things come and go in nearly 4,000 days? TSL infographics guru OXVT (follow him on Twitter) puts it into perspective for you. We have run the first infographic before, but OX has produced a couple new ones … enjoy.
What did OX leave out? Submit your suggestions below!
very few 6th graders would have been born
We were still hunting Saddam
I believe that Miley, Snooki and the ACC did exist back on 11/29/2003, but have changed quite a bit since then.
If in 2003 I purchased an item for $ 1.00 then in 2015 that same item would cost: $1.28
Variations in national average price of regular gasoline since the last time UVa beat VT in football: http://i.imgur.com/ECS7T1w.png
Also, a list of celebrities who were still alive when we last lost to UVa would be interesting: Leonard Nimoy, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Michael Clarke Duncan, Robin Williams, Marlon Brando, Christopher Reeve, Ronald Reagan, Rodney Dangerfield, Ray Charles, Rick James, James Garner, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Mickey Rooney, Richard Attenborough, Shirley Temple, Harold Ramis, Joan Rivers, Casey Kasem, Paul Walker, James Gandolfini, Roger Ebert, Tony Scott, Andy Griffith, Whitney Houston, Richard Dawson, and many, many more.
Probably more applicable/interesting would be famous NFL athletes who were still alive or playing that are now no longer with us or no longer in the NFL.
LOL, OX has been asking us if he should do a “celebrities who have died since the last time UVa beat VT” infographic.
of perhaps he could do a “celebrities who have been BORN since the Hoos last beat the Hokies”
To me it’s not necessary to include Oceans 13 if you’re already including Oceans 12 as any sequel to a movie that’s already listed is redundant.
Here’s some good source material from 2004. Enjoy!

Historical events since 2003?
Are there any countries that didn’t exist yet?
The 2011 Year of Death caused by natural disasters? Japan earthquake, epic tornadoes, etc.
Montengro 2006
Serbia 2006
Kosovo 2008
South Sudan 2011
Beerfest?
Lets do one on the last time VT won a national championship in anything.
So, since last week when we won the Club Gymnastics title?
Or, since June 6, 2013 when Tomas Kruzliak won the Outdoor Track & Field Hammer Throw?
Did I miss The Voice on the one chart?
The next chart could be the number of TV shows that have been canceled.
Great fun!
I’m sure every Wahoo that reads this is simply going to point out that “the last time that UVA beat Virginia Tech on November 29, 2003” is going to be furious about the redundancy of the poorly written chart title. There will never be another November 29, 2003. Saying “The last time on November 29, 2003” would have gotten you some red ink in high school English!
and* is — see, I can’t do it correctly, either!
Another seven years and the Hokie Freshman class will have never seen Tech lose to ‘hoos in their lifetime.
Interesting. A lot of crap has cluttered the world since UVA last defeated us in football. I could live without 95% of the things shown in your graphics. Now let me get back to my one room shack in the woods. LOL
I always appreciate your graphics. Good job!
No one has ever looked at their iPhone and said, “Damn, UVA beat VT in football”
NO ONE!!
That’s great stuff! 🙂
