This past fall proved to be plenty beneficial for Boyd-Buchanan (Tenn.) 2022 three-star tight end Karson Gay. He bulked up, from 185 to 235 pounds. With his 6-foot-7 frame, college programs took notice.           

Gay now sits at 13 scholarship offers, most recently from Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. But like many high school recruits, he’s yet to make any in-person visits. A few virtual visits, Instagram Live sessions, FaceTime conversations and other communication have been helpful. But to this point, Gay said he hasn’t made much progress with his recruitment.           

“Me and my dad have had some serious talks about starting to narrow things down,” he said. “With COVID and the portal and everything, it’s tough to know if we should commit or not. We’ve thought about bringing it down to a few and decide soon. I’d like to visit one or two places first, before I make any decision. But if it comes to needing to commit without having to do that, all the schools have been great with talking and giving info, doing Zoom, Facetime and letting me know of everything going on, how gamedays are. If I had to commit without going anywhere, I wouldn’t be too worried.”
