Texas quarterback Dematrius Davis has decommitted from Virginia Tech, though he says he still plans to take an official visit the Blacksburg campus.

Davis, the No. 96 player in the country per 247Sports, originally committed back on November 13, just four days after taking an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech for the Hokies 36-17 victory over Wake Forest.  Davis was actually a silent commit before taking that visit, but the experience in Blacksburg cemented his feelings.

“Me and my dad, we’ve been looking at the depth chart, who’s leaving, coming,” Davis said when he originally committed. “Virginia Tech, it was just the best school, looking at all of them. We went to a game. I committed before, but I went up there, felt the love from the fans, and the atmosphere was great. I can’t wait to come out every Saturday in that. I talked to Tre Turner, Tay Robinson, it was just great. It’s a home up there, and they just made it easy. They’ve kept in touch with me every day. I feel like I have a great chance to have success.”

Now Davis is back on the market, and if the 247Sports prognosticators are to be believe, Auburn is his likely destination.

We’ll have more on the decommitment, including the factors we feel led to his decommitment, in a TSL Pass article this afternoon.
