The scholarship offer Friday from Virginia Tech was the first thus far for Chantilly (Va.) 2022 defensive lineman Aiden Gobaira, but it also literally initiated his recruitment.

Gobaira said prior to the offer from the Hokies, he hadn’t heard from any coaches. His own high school coaches had been in contact with schools, but Gobaira himself hadn’t. On Monday, Virginia followed suit with an offer, and now Gobaira said he’s trying to get a handle on his recruitment, simply to make sense of the quick turn of events.

“I had no idea any of this was going to happen,” he said. “I woke up Friday and my coaches were like, ‘pick up the phone, its Virginia Tech.’ This just blindsided me. I’ve only been offered and talking to coaches for a few days. I might relax next week, but right now I’m excited knowing I won’t have to pay for college.”
