It’s been awhile since we’ve run an Inside the Numbers article, so today I want to touch on two different topics: the performance of Kerry Blackshear, and Virginia Tech’s performance inside the 3-point line against UVA.
The Impact of Kerry Blackshear
You might have noticed that Kerry Blackshear’s play has been very impressive recently. Blackshear’s numbers have been trending up since ACC play began, and they’ve been trending up even more since the calendar turned to February.
A simple table will sum it up nicely. The first line shows Blackshear’s numbers in 12 non-conference games. The second one shows his numbers in all 14 ACC games. The third line shows his numbers in Virginia Tech’s six February contests.
Category | FG% | 3-Pt.% | FT% | RPG | APG | PPG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Non-Conference | 54.1% | 33.3% | 60.4% | 5.8 | 1.8 | 13.0 |
ACC | 52.5% | 45.6% | 81.3% | 7.9 | 2.3 | 15.5 |
February | 60.0% | 53.3% | 86.8% | 8.5 | 2.7 | 19.8 |
With the exception of overall field goal percentage from non-conference play to ACC play, all of Blackshear’s key numbers have improved as the season has progressed, and even his overall field goal percentage is way up in the month of February.
